Soon after Jason and Julia Young bought an abandoned farm property, Jason began a year-long experiment that would change his life forever - and that would produce this quiet, powerful, and impressive feature documentary debut.

 

The idea seemed simple. If you're going to eat meat, Jason thought, then you should raise the animals. Get to know them, discover their personalities, treat them with respect - and eventually slaughter them yourself.

 

Lovingly photographed over four seasons - and interspersed with exceptional black-and-white portraits of humans, animals and farm tools, - Animals takes us deep into the heart of the animal-human relationship, with all its contradictions.
